Time flies and 'they' do grow up so fast. I'm not a parent, but I do have a lot of nieces and nephews, whom are the reason for me relating to this cliché. My godchild will be turning six tomorrow and I can still remember the day that she was born like it was yesterday. (Yes, another cliché) As a godmother/godauntie, I'm suppose to guide and protect her throughout her life. It is a task that I take very seriously, but now I'm wondering how I can protect her of what is yet to come.

I have to do my best to make this sixth birthday one that she will never forget, one that she will look back on for the rest of her life. Six will be a significant age in her life. We will all go through losses during our lifetime, but how can you prepare a six year old for it?

We all hope and pray for a good outcome, but sometimes even hope and God cannot pull another medical miracle. So until the day comes that my beloved godchild will face that day of loss during her sixth year in life, I'll make sure that six is a good number for her so that she will can look back at it in the future with sad and happy memories.
