Monday dinner @ Rolf’s

IVI's (International Volunteers & Interns)

I’ve been thinking about South Africa a lot yesterday. My mind wondered off to the Monday dinners that I used to have with the International Volunteers and Interns (IVI’s) at Rolf’s house. At that time Rolf Weichardt was the Centre Director of YFC Cape Town (now he’s the National Director of YFC South Africa) and he and his lovely family welcomed us to their house every Monday evening. Today was one of those days that I really wished that I could go back in time to one of these Monday’s.

The Weichardt's
(Tenille, Lizzie, Rolf, Kyle and Mikhail)

Every Monday either Rolf or Lizzie (Rolf’s wife) cooked us a delicious meal. It was always the perfect get together after a working day and a great way to start the rest of the week. On many occasions, Rolf also invited good friends of him to join us for dinner. These friends are just as great as the Weichardt’s are and it was always so much fun to get to know all these wonderful people. We just hung out together and enjoyed each other’s company while chilling in the laidback African atmosphere. One of the things that I really loved was to play games with Lizzie and the volunteers after dinner. Lizzie and I are both very fanatic game players and we always gave the volunteers a run for their money (not in the gambling way of course haha).

Rolf cooking the traditional SA dish: Potjiekos for us... so yummy! :-)

I miss these wonderful days that I’ve shared with my South African family. I’m very blessed to have been able to meet each and every one of them. Although the memories are engraved on my mind and in my heart, I’m also very happy to have photo’s that have captured these moments of true happiness.

A very funny moment captured on camera <3

To my dearly beloved South African YFC family: I’m so grateful for the time that we’ve had together. Know that I love and miss all of you! Baie baie baie dankie for being you! ;-)

Much love,
Bao-Nhi
